Honoring a Legacy of Compassion
In a heartfelt tribute to the late Yrsa Gruning, founder of Sunway Children's Home, Bodh Gaya, the Dwyer Foundation recently organised a one-day Health and Dental Check-up Camp aimed at nurturing the health and happiness of the Home's children. The camp celebrated Ms. Gruning's lifelong devotion to the welfare of orphaned and underprivileged children, carrying forward her mission through meaningful care and compassion.
Gathering for Care and Compassion
Nearly 75 resident children gathered eagerly for comprehensive medical and dental examinations led by dedicated healthcare professionals: Dr. Ektedar Ahmad, a senior pediatrician, and Dr. Sabahath Noor, a dental surgeon from Gaya. Their warm, interactive approach transformed routine check-ups into valuable lessons in health and hygiene.
Scenes of Healing and Learning
The cheerful faces of children during gentle examinations reflected the camp's nurturing atmosphere. As Dr. Noor demonstrated using charts, models and a PowerPoint presentation for proper brushing techniques and explained the great importance of dental care, children listened attentively - some giggling as they mimicked instructions, others asking thoughtful questions.
Dr. Ahmad engaged children with stories about good nutrition, restful sleep, and regular exercise, making health an understandable and achievable part of daily life. The doctors' caring presence helped reduce anxiety, reinforcing each child's sense of being valued and supported.
When children learn to care for their health early, they grow into confident, healthy individuals capable of transforming their communities.

A Moment of Gratitude
The event was coordinated under the leadership of Mr. Priye Ranjan Dwyer, President of the Dwyer Foundation, whose long-standing partnership with Sunway Children's Home signifies an ongoing commitment to child welfare. Mr. Dwyer warmly thanked the medical team, volunteers, local leaders, and international supporters from Denmark, highlighting that the shared mission transcends borders.
International and Community Bonds
Longtime supporters Mr. Kenneth and Ms. Norma, associates of Sunway Trust from Denmark, graced the occasion, exemplifying the global compassion that sustains Sunway Children's Home and its efforts. Local volunteers, including former residents now working and housed at Sunway - such as Kunal and Sarita - provided vital logistical support, showcasing the powerful impact of united resident, local, and international stewardship.
Promoting Hygiene and Preventive Care
Beyond individual assessments, the camp featured interactive sessions emphasizing hygiene and preventive health. Children were encouraged to adopt simple habits like washing hands before meals and brushing teeth twice daily - practices with life-long benefits.
Special focus was given to oral health, with Dr. Noor describing teeth as "daily companions for life," inspiring children to embrace dental care as a joyful responsibility.
Carrying Forward a Mission of Service
The camp served as a vivid reminder of the Dwyer Foundation's multifaceted commitment - providing healthcare, awareness, and education to foster confident, healthy children ready to thrive. Plans for regular camps across Bodh Gaya and neighboring areas aim to guarantee ongoing care and empowerment for vulnerable children in partner institutions.
Lasting Legacy and Bright Futures
As the day concluded, children left with smiles brighter not only due to dental care received but also from the warmth and care felt throughout the camp. The spirit of Late Yrsa Gruning - marked by compassion, love, and hope - shone through every joyful face and caring interaction.
A Living Testament to Compassion
The Health and Dental Check-up Camp was more than a medical outreach; it stood as a living testament to a compassion-driven legacy - transforming lives and inspiring communities through acts of care and kindness.
